چکیده
We present the first continuous middle through late Pleistocene record of fossil ostracods from Maldives in northern Indian Ocean, derived sediment cores taken at Site U1467 by Expedition 359 International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP). lies 487 m water depth Inner Sea archipelago, an ideal place for studying effects South Asian Monsoon (SAM) system on primary productivity, intermediate ocean circulation, and regional oxygen minimum zone (OMZ). The acts as a natural trap that has undergone sedimentation millions years with minor terrestrial influence. Our spans Marine Isotope Stage (MIS) 35 to present, covering mid-Pleistocene transition (1.2–0.6 Ma) Mid-Brunhes Event (MBE, ~480 ka) time when ice age cycles transitioned occurring every 40,000 100,000 years. ostracod data is interpreted alongside existing datasets same site sedimentological (grain-size) XRF-elemental analyses, new organic biomarker also U1467. These support paleoenvironmental interpretation assemblages. Ostracods are abundant diverse, displaying prominent change faunal composition MBE related increase amplitude glacial-interglacial cycles, which deeply affected monsoon thereby past oceanographic conditions Sea. Furthermore, exhibit distinctly different assemblages across particularly after MBE, these changes convincingly correspond variability OMZ. Glacial periods characterized indicators well‑oxygenated bottom due intensification winter contraction Abundant psychrospheric during glacials suggests southern sourced mass, such Antarctic Intermediate Water (AAIW) and/or Subantarctic Mode water, bathed glacial periods. In contrast, interglacial stages species indicate low-oxygen sluggish circulation pointing expansion OMZ strengthening summer monsoon. results highlight sensitivity climate variability.

Carbon dioxide and climate over the past 300 Myr.
The link between atmospheric CO(2) levels and global warming is an axiom of current public policy, and is well supported by physicochemical experiments, by comparative planetary climatology and by geochemical modelling. Geological tests of this idea seek to compare proxies of past atmospheric CO(2) with other proxies of palaeotemperature. For at least the past 300 Myr, there is a remarkably hig...
متن کاملSolar Variability over the past Several Millennia
The Sun is the most important energy source for the Earth. Since the incoming solar radiation is not equally distributed and peaks at low latitudes the climate system is continuously transporting energy towards the polar regions. Any variability in the Sun-Earth system may ultimately cause a climate change. There are two main variability components that are related to the Sun. The first is due ...
متن کاملThree million years of monsoon variability over the northern Sahara
We present a 3 million year record of aeolian dust supply into the eastern Mediterranean Sea, based on hematite contents derived from magnetic properties of sediments from Ocean Drilling Program Site 967. Our record has an average temporal resolution of 3400 years. Geochemical data validate this record of hematite content as a proxy for the supply of aeolian dust from the Sahara. We deduce that...
متن کاملPossible relationship between the Earth's rotation variations and geomagnetic field reversals over the past 510 Myr
The Earth’s rotation can change as a result of several internal and external processes, each of which is at a different timescale. Here, we present some possible connections between the Earth’s rotation variations and the geomagnetic reversal frequency rates over the past 120 Myr. In addition, we show the possible relationship between the geomagnetic field reversal frequency and the 18 δ O osci...
متن کاملAsian Monsoon Variability over the Past Millennium Reconstructed from Long Tree-Ring Records: the Monsoon Asia Drought Atlas, version 2 (MADAv2)
The Monsoon Asia Drought Atlas, version 2 (MADAv2), is a substantially updated and improved year-to-year reconstruction of summer drought and wetness on a 1.0° grid over Monsoon Asia. It has been developed using the same basic methodology as that used in producing the previous version (MADAv1) published in 2010 and is now based on an improved target field of self-calibrating Palmer Drought Seve...
